One of my favorite places - Blue Mountain, Washington

My family and I were just talking about some of the places we've been, and whenever we have this conversation we inevitably remember Blue Mountain in Olympic National Park in Washington (elevation - 6,004 ft). We went there on a whim on our way out of the north end of the Olympic National Park loop. It's a 9-mile drive up a windy dirt and gravel road literally on the side of the mountain. The drive took about 40 minutes. No guard rail, blind curves, and barely enough room for 2 vehicles to pass each other. Needless to say, my wife and kids were scared shitless on the way up (to quote my daughter "My butthole was puckered the whole way up"), but the treacherous journey was worth it, as we were treated to one of the best views this country has to offer.

The photos don't do it justice. It was breathtaking. Click here for a couple of videos of the drive and more photos in an Ente Photos album.
